Pink Gem Stone Rings

Information On Different Pink Gem Stones.

Some Pink Gem Rings

A pink gem ring could be a special occassion jewel or could be worn as a casual wear jewel. Many buyers often enquire regarding the price of gold or 925 silver rings with pink gemstones, they basically want to know whether rings with pink colored gems are expensive. Don't expect to get one simple answer as all pink stones are not the same and do not cost the same either. In our discussion on pink gem rings, we will limit ourselves to natural gems and not spend time on factory made substitutes no matter what fancy name they are given. Pink gems generally look great in yellow or white gold. However very pale pink gems should ideally be set in white gold.

Pink Quartz: As the name suggests this is basically a quartz and not expensive. Also sometimes referred to as rose quarts, this gem can have a transparency that ranging from fully opaque to almost transparent. When pink quartz is fully opaque, it can have a fairly saturated pink shade. Inclusions and cracks are very common in opaque pink quartz. After all, it is the inclusions that prevent light from passing through the stone, this makes the stone opaque. The more transparent type of rose quartz or pink quartz is also an elegant and moderately priced pink gem stone. However, the color on these pink stones can be som pale that only white gold can make it visible. The price of pink quartz is suitable for both silver or gold pink quartz gemstone rings.

Pink Topaz: You would have often heard that white and blue topaz are the most moderately priced topaz gems. Pink topaz and even yellow or often called Imperial topaz, are the expensive varieties of topaz gems. All this is true and you still find large, eye clean pink topaz gems being set in inexpensive silver rings. How can this happen? The answer is simple, jewelers even the big television sales tamashas, do not tell you that the pink topaz gems being sold these days are not really pink. These pink gem stones are actually white topaz that is coated on the surface with a layer of pink. What this means is that, the gem will lose it's color if the surface is damaged. This can also happen if the coated pink topaz is recut, repolished or struck by physical impact. So if you are looking for a 925 silver ring or an 18k or 14k gold pink gem stone ring, make sure that this pink topaz information is understood by you.

Kunzite: This gemstone can be a pale pink or a medium pink color shade. When a darker pink color shade is seen in the stone, you will observe that the gem almost always has a violet-purple color hint too. There is something very interesting about Kunzite gems. The color of kunzite will fade over time as it is exposed to light and heat. While heat treatment and radiation are routinely used to enhance the color of Kunzite, this is not something that you can do at home or by yourself. So you can safely conclude that when a Kunzite gem fades that is a non-reversible happening.

Pink Tourmaline: It is well known that the tourmaline gem family has a number of colorful members. Pink tourmaline is one of them, this pink gem stone is gorgeous and sturdy the color is also stable. The color of pink tourmaline stones can range from a very pale pink to a much more saturated pink. When pink tourmalines have a pronounced red shade, they are called rubelite. However, they should not be confused with rubies since rubies and tourmalines belong to completely different mineral groups. Pink tourmaline rings can have gems in the 1 carat to 3 carat size range.

Pink Sapphire: If you were looking for a pink gem stone ring with one of the most precious pink gems, it would have to be a pink sapphire gem stone. Blessed with a hardness factor of 9, sapphires are the second hardest gems to be used in jewelry. The gem with the highest hardness rating is diamond. You could refer to this pink gem as the queen of pink gemstones. Like most other sapphires, pink sapphire is also not a cheap gem. Better grades and larger sizes command premium prices. When you choose a pink sapphire ring, you will need to balance price, quality and size. In most cases, the best option would be to choose a pink sapphire gemstone that is neither too large nor too small. You can then get a good quality gem at a moderate price.

Pink Morganite: Many minerals have contributed more than one stone to the jewelry industry, beryl is one such mineral. If your pink gem silver or gold ring had a morganite stone, the gem would belong to the same mineral family (beryl) as aquamarine, bixbite and emerald. While there is no problem with the hardness or color stability of morganite gems, the color of the stone in most cases is a very pale pink. A slightly darker brownish-pink morganite is sometimes preferred over a plain pink gem. If you wondered from where this beryl got it's name, there is an interesting story about it. J.P Morgan, the leading finanical expert (decades ago) was an avid gem collector. Pink beryl was one of his favorite gems, and it was therefore named Morganite.

Pink Spinel: This is another gem that is found in a few colors, pink spinel, red spinel and blue spinel are very popular. Pink spinel might not be very easy to find in eye clean quality even in the 2 to 3 carat size range. Most buyers generally go for pinks apphire or pink tourmaline, quite a few jewelry lovers have not heard of spinel. It is also not easy to get pink spinels in shapes besides round and oval.

The above report covers most of the pink stones used in jewelry production. We would like to mention that, the gems discussed above are all natural gems. You can find a number of pink stones that are mass produced in factories. Cubic zirconium is one such stone, it has the glitter of a diamond and impeccable clarity. However in terms of value pink cubic zirconium would be worth almost nothing. Gems like pink sapphires and even pink tourmaline are also cloned in laboratories. Names like glass pink sapphire, lab pink sapphire or even cz pink tourmaline are confusing and unclear. Suffice it to say that, they all refer to stones made by man in a production facility.
